POWASSAN – A slow start and an early first period deficit wasn’t enough to snap the Powassan Voodoos 20 game-winning streak on Monday night.
After falling behind 2-0 in the game’s five first minutes the Voodoos notched five unanswered goals and coasted to a 5-2 victory over Kirkland Lake, extending their winning streak to 21.
“We came out flat … and they were coming quick,” said Powassan head coach Scott Wray. “They had a good transition, there breakouts were clean and they were moving pretty quickly.”
It was déjà vu for the Voodoos, who had limped out to a 3-0 first period deficit just 10 days earlier against this same Kirkland Lake squad. On this night, just like they had done on Dec. 2, the Voodoos mounted a comeback.
“It’s a testament to our work ethic. We never give up. We always battle and find a way to win,” said forward Ryan Bazzana.
