POWASSAN – Gary Mantz extended his NOJHL-leading point streak to 13 games on Sunday afternoon notching a hat trick and propelling the Powassan Voodoos to their seventh straight win – a 4-2 victory over the visiting Iroquois Falls Eskis.
“My line mates were finding me. Honestly if I wasn’t in the right spots at the right time I wouldn’t have put those in,” said Mantz. “They are looking for me, giving me great passes and I am just getting lucky.”
Mantz opened the scoring at 7:11 of the first period when he rifled a pass from Andy Baker past the flailing glove of Eskis’ netminder Trevor Hawkes.
After getting stopped on multiple breakaways the Waterloo native beat Hawkes a second time, slipping one by him at 13:27 of the second frame to put the Voodoos up 2-0.
With time ticking down in the third period and the Voodoos defending a slim 3-2 lead, Mantz took a outlet pass from Ryan Bazzana, walked in on goal and slid the puck into an empty Eskis’ net, notching his third of the game and sealing the victory for the home side.
